Oh, my goodness!

It's been almost 2 months since my last blog. So much has happened, and nothing has happened.

Those of you who know me well know we all had a heart wrenching loss this summer. So many of my thoughts have been consumed by it--actions by others in a moment (or maybe a lifetime) of stupidity that can end life in a split second and leave survivors to grapple.

Trying to look at the silver lining, a woman in San Diego got a new lease on life when she received our friend's liver. Sharon not only lives on in the faces of her daughters, the hair color of her granddaughter, but physically in a woman in San Diego. Another good thing is that those of us who work together got slapped in the face with a dose of reality. Awful things don't just happen to others detached from us, it can happen to us. We are closer and more tender with each other. Let it last.

Turning away from our heartache, my children are all healthy and happy. Laurel is thinking about spending a year in Japan. Don's a little iffy about it but I think we should let her stretch. She was never meant to be closed in to the confines of Illinois, or even the US. She's traveled twice across the Atlantic, so now it's time for the Pacific. My only request is that she visit Kyoto. And take pictures or videos of an authentic geisha.

Caroline conquered Calculus 3 and English 2 in eight weeks at summer school. She didn't finish as well as she wanted but we kept reminding her of two facts: these classes were double-paced in their delivery and the actual GPA doesn't transfer. Just the credit. Since she was working 20-30 hours a week on top of it, we think she did just fine.

Keith is looking forward to another football season. He's ripped. His weight is down and his height is up. He also works a bunch of hours and has been kept busy with that as well as weights and football maneuvers. Oh, and he threw a couple books in there, as well.

Don has been with Keith most of the summer doing the football stuff.

I STUPIDLY took two distance-learning classes with the notion they'd be, well, not easy but certainly not as difficult as they are! They're driving me crazy! And yet, I blog.

So, all too soon, my end-of-the-summer depression will set in, with the peak being the-night-before-the-first-day-of-school depression. I need to buy some new jammies to stay in all that day.

And there you have it. I'll try to be better, but Facebook is so stinkin' appealing.
